About Us

About Washington Elementary

Welcome to Washington Elementary School! We are a unique elementary school in the heart of the community of Point Richmond. Our school is celebrating 100 years this year. We are proud of our students and their accomplishments. We are comprised of both traditional and dual Spanish-English immersion classes. We have a diverse community that works well together to accomplish our goals. We invite you to learn more about our school and the great things we are doing everyday.

About the Washington Elementary PTA

The mission of the Washington Elementary School PTA is closely aligned with the California State PTA, which is to empower and support our members with skills in advocacy, leadership, and communication to positively impact the lives of all children.

The PTA at Washington is a very active group of parents and teachers. We put on a variety of community events as well as help raise funds for areas of need around the school. Most recently the PTA saw a need for a music instructor, so through diligent efforts, the community came together to raise enough money to hire one. Subsequently, the need for a structured recess coach came about. Again the community pulled together to fund a recess coach. We are not just about fundraising, though.  We also hold several events for the community such as free movie nights, a Welcome Picnic in the fall and we plan to hold a blood drive this winter. We strongly encourage you to join our organization. Membership in the PTA entitles you to vote on important matters that directly impact the lives of children at our school. CLICK HERE to join.

Activities and Programs Supported

Uniform Exchange: Bring any uniform item in, take an item. There are many items ranging from 5-14. Also, if your child is in need of a jacket for the upcoming cold months, please come grab one. The rack is in the copier room next to the front office.

Garden Program: Our organic garden is flourishing. The PTA supplies funds in order to keep the garden up and running. The garden is a living classroom that provides opportunities for children to learn about nutrition and sustainable living. Please CLICK HERE to learn more.

Adopt a Teacher: Our teachers make our school great. We like to show our appreciation by “adopting” each teacher. Throughout the year the adopting “angels” present small tokens of appreciation.

Music Program:  One of the biggest losses to public education in the recent past is music education. The PTA saw the need for our children to be exposed to music at a young age, therefore a huge campaign was launched to fund a music instructor. Kit Eackle (Mr. E to the kids) joined Washington in the spring of 2012. The children love making music and learning appreciation for the fine arts. Many exciting things are in the works to showcase our kids’ musical talents. Stay tuned!

Recess Coach: Our recess program came about when the need for structured recess play was identified. With the help of Coach Jaime, our students engage in organized “play” or games that emphasize turn taking, helpfulness, rule following, and emotional control.

Parent Partners:  If you are new to the school/district, it can be an overwhelming experience. We pair people up to help navigate the system.

Dads’ Club:The Dads’ Club is an informal group of guys brought together socially in order to enhance our children’s experience at Washington School.  The Dads “help out” with physical repairs/improvements both in and around the school by utilizing our manpower and professional resources.  The Dads also encourage student/family camaraderie and school involvement by hosting several social events.
